First full tank @ 50MPG; 500+ miles! (1998 Dodge Neon 5-spd)

Patting myself on the back right now... Winter was very harsh for me. I couldn't get out of the 35MPG range all winter long! Was very depressing...

But here comes the warmth! And it feels mighty nice... on my savings! lol. I don't like the heat personally, but hey, guess it's proving to have some sort of use here.

As I hit 500 miles since last fill up, I was pretty excited... but doubted I'd get a full tank to get 50+MPH. I had done a third of a tank or so at around 50MPG, but have been trying for almost a year to get a full tank to do it. Sure enough, 514.6 miles with 10.204 gallons later... 50.43MPG!

I noticed my over-all coasting has been able to be a lot longer w/ the recent warm-up... on top of that, I've been really pushing for earlier engine-off when I coast to the stops.

The biggest catch for me is this: When I usually get 47-49MPG in a tank, it's because I've been on the highway most of the time. This go-around, less than 200 miles of this tank was at all highway. The rest, completely city and rarely going over 35MPH!

So, I'm pretty stoked. The little Neon finally hit my first major goal. Now, to get more aeromods done and get to 55MPG...

50+ psi Frontal blocking, weight reduction like mad (400lbs or so?), removed AC and power steering, eco tires, air dam, LEDs, high efficiency stereo... working on lowering whole car, lower front bumper, solar assist sun roof, and kammback conversion right now.

Awesome plan. I see 55+ mpg in your near future with that list! Congrats on the sweet numbers and keep up the great work!

Congrats thats really an accomplishment!

Ive always thought for as many tens of millions of small fwd 4 cyl compacts that Chrysler Corp has built over the years, that we'd see more examples of what you've done with yours.

Gotta love a Dodge! Whether a little old Neon or a 7,000-lb RAM turbodiesel (Diesel_Dave) 50-mpg is the magic number.

Congrats to you, sir.
