HYPERCRUZER Badges

As a Cruze owner I spend quite a bit of time on the CruzeTalk forum. A few members decided to put together a badge recognition for those members who demonstrate the ability to exceed the car's EPA highway rated cruising range on one tank of fuel, OR consistently exceed the EPA MPG rating over several tanks of fuel.

I finally was able to get my GOLD level badge this weekend after hypermiling my Cruze Eco to over 60 MPG for an entire tank of fuel, most of which was during daily driving, though with a modified route that exagerated the most efficient part of my commute. My regular driving in good weather has been around 50 MPG in normal driving.

The thread is here:

HyperCruzer Badges

And my post is here about halfway down:

HyperCruzer Badges - Page 9

Just thought some of you might find it interesting what some car forums are doing to promote higher fuel economy driving.

Congrats on the milestone!

The gold badge is designed to be difficult. It's 20% over the EPA highway estimate and requires a combination of driving skills, routing, and a little luck. So far only 5 members have achieved this.

Getting below 4 L/100km / or 60mpg with a modern petrol car is pretty impressive

What driving techniques do you use ?

Every trick in the book, as far as I know, except P&G since the car has a turbo. Keeping speeds low is probably the biggest single thing I do, and is made easy with my commute since almost half of it is on a road with a speed limit of 60 km/h.

This tank was an exception, however, since my normal driving has been closer to 50 MPG. I spent more time than usual cruising at lower speeds.

This forum definitely inspired some creative driving... seeing what some people are capable of pushed me to try harder.

EDIT: I should add that the car is fairly stock, with only tire pressures increased, wider spark plug gaps and lowering springs as the things that have a potential to increase mileage. The Eco's super tall 6th gear makes hypermiling this car fairly easy.

I thought as much ...

You're matching my best-ever mileage in my Volvo.
Similar in size & weight ... but that Volvo was a diesel.
