Made it to 600 miles

Well this last week I was well past 500 miles in my 93 Camry when the fuel light started to come on. So I decided to see if I could make to 600. I put my 1 gallon gas can in the trunk and started my weekly 100 mile round trip to class. It started getting pretty intense the closer I got. But I made it to 608 miles even when I pulled up to the pump.

I ended up using 17.745 gallons, which averaged out to about 34.2 mpg. Not as good as I was hoping for, but still good. The odd thing is the owner's manual says the tank only holds 17.3 gallons.

Anyway, I had fun and got pretty good mpg for as big as the car is, just thought I would share.

Congrats on 600+ miles!!

17.745 gallons sounds about right if you topped it off. Wish the Corolla had a larger tank. Can only squeeze a little over 11 gallons with the needle on "E". Try not to completely top off the tank as it can cause expensive emissions system problems.

Yea i try not to over fill it. My normal procedure is to fill it til one click after the pump shuts off. It seems to be pretty consistent for me.

Congratulations that is a great number

I suppose the manual writers never expected you to drive 100 miles past the warning light

Your tank holds 3 more gallons then my cars 14.700 us gal. rating.

Although I squeeze near a gallon ( 4 liters ) of extra diesel in at the pump , by hand filling until the fuel is 3/4 the way up the filler tube.
I have also filled the tank to the brim , a couple of times by error.

the extra fuel is most likely from leftover fuel in the fuel lines and fuel pump...you were probably running on vapors!
