New truck, what to buy?
We are beginning to look for a new truck to replace our 2003 Tundra and I thought I would check with the knowledgeable people here, to get your opinions of what the best vehicle would be.
Needs; we have to have four wheel drive as the " ranch " property is four miles up a steep road with a small river crossing. We tow a 5000 pound RV camp trailer in the mountains, and a small tractor on a 14' tandem axle equipment trailer. My better half will only ride in a vehicle she is proud to be seen in, so my idea of restoring a Willys FC 170 will not fly...darn it!
I really like the Isuzu UTE from Australia but the wrong side drive and import issues make that not feasible, same with the Toyota 70 series from down under. I am looking for the best milage obviously, but reliability is foremost and the smaller the better so it will fit in the garage. I have looked at the common US trucks and even some crossover Hybrids, but they don't have a large enough towing capacity. I am open to new or lightly used and willing to travel to get something good and we are not in a hurry to find it.
SO, does anyone have any good ideas?
THANKS!

Probably the leading choice as of now but I'm not thrilled with their fuel mileage and they are almost too big to fit in the garage.
Thanks!

Do you need a truck, or does an SUV work? Need to seat more than 2 people?
The Tacoma Access cab is rated to tow 6,500lbs, and it's the truck I'd get if I wanted something smaller. 16 city/21 highway/18 combined.
If you don't need the bed, I'd go with an SUV. I'm not the nervous type, so I'd probably tow your 5,000lbs with a Ford Escape Ecoboost which is rated at 3,500.

The pick up bed is handy for construction projects, gravel, plywood, bags of concrete, etc. and rarely do we need to carry more than two. We plan on trips with the trailer to the mountains of Colorado, so pushing the load limit would not be wise.
Thanks..

Colorado diesel
Not much out there. If I were in the market, I'd have to build my own.

They have a diesel? I'll check it out. Would love to build my own, even looked at getting a van cab and chassis and adding bed to it. Could make it aero too
Thanks

2015 model out soon. An VW Amarok would be nice if it wasn't for the chicken tax.
The van idea would work well with a Sprinter. Or better yet a T5 doka syncro (non-usa).
A used but still expensive option is look at a B4 or CRD swapped jeep Unlimited TJ (ala AEV Brute)
