Retired My Camaro

Guess I have been putting off officially parking my last muscle car.

I filled it up last June and that tank lasted it till May of this year. So really if you add up a cost per mile it was pretty nuts. Insurance for the year was 1200$ and taxes/license prob $100. Add in the tank of gas for $50 and that 155 miles got pretty expensive. $8 a mile seems a bit much to me.

So the car is now parked along the back wall of my garage with the rest of my collection of cars that I need to do something with. It's only problems right now are a very sick transmission that didn't like doing a 11 second quarter mile and a rear end that probably will only last slightly longer than the trans. If I get the car back on the road it will need both of them replaced with much stronger units probably within 1000 miles. The other cars in my garage are a 78 Spitfire(sister's car), 80 Camaro, 86 CJ-7, 94 Mustang, and my Coyote X kit car.

So now I guess I offically join the slow lane since I no longer have a licensed car that can do well over 100mph without being dropped out of a plane. One of these days 'pay by the mile' insurance will be available and I will get all of them licensed so I can drive a different car every day

That box sitting on the roof of it are the round headlight buckets and covers to replace the 80's looking square ones and make the car more correct for it's orig design. I planned on fixing it up as nice as the one in your picture but never got around to it for various reasons.

I guess mainly because it is maybe 2000lbs total with me in it and has 750lb-ft of torque without the 500hp nitrous fogger turned on I pulled a huge wheelie in it once at 80mph. I guess sticking a 76 Eldorado drivetrain in the back might have been a bit overkill. But I never was one for doing something halfway. I figured a car that looks as mean as that one needs at least a 500 cubic inch engine in it. It is the only car I have ever driven that actually scares me and I have been in some really fast drag cars before.

BTW my Coyote is serial # 0001

That's quite a collection you have there. I see where you are coming from on parking them, of course. It must be tempting to just take one of those out for a drive and stomp on the pedal.

BTW-Could you clear up that avatar of yours, I've always been confused. Is it a minivan at a track?

haha I prefer the furthest parking spot, you know the one a mile away from the store. Sometimes I even take up two spots on the other side of the planet (the far side of the p-lot) where nobody else parks so noone can hit my car. Of course, my family/friends riding with me hate it.

I don't know why anyone would want a spitfire. They are really crappy cars. They look good but chances are it will have more miles on the back of a truck than it can manage under it's own power. I plan on restoring it for my sister but only using stock body panels. Everything under it will be a different car. Prob a chevette if I can find a decent running one cheap.

The only problem with parking in that thing was I had to do it twice. I pulled in but there is no way to open the hatch from the inside so I had to back out of it. Then I could unlock my hatch and pull back in so I could get out and get a picture of it. With both mirrors now gone I bet I could get in and out of one of those things easy. I need to try it again and update the pic with my new metro
