A Sawzall can turn almost any car into a pseudo-Pulsar.

I suppose if a real boattail is your goal, any squareback vehicle would be the easiest starting point, as you could potentially build it solely on the hatch- or in the hole the hatch used to occupy- leaving all else untouched.

I have considered such a thing for Moon Unit.

Sedans like "Blue", my 4 door Tempo, could be more complicated because of my desire to keep easy access to the trunk.

Quarters are structural, part of the unibody, welded in place.

This is more of my idea of a true fastback.[IMG][/IMG]

Oldsmobile tried in the '80's for an aero look, but didn't come off nearly as clean as the Monte Carlo/Grand Prix.

Maybe not so aero, but a reminder for a gentler right foot!

This doesn't look too bad. The 4 door versions are funky looking!

I got to drive a diesel one of these from Portland, OR to Boston w a slight change to the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal along the way to Boston for a driveaway company.
The extra miles were permitted by that company, 30mpg at 55mph.

Halfway between a notchback, and a fastback???[IMG][/IMG]

My former professor owned a MINT brown one just last year but had to move and sell it. Very, um, relaxed handling. It wasn't the 442, though. Just a Cutlass iirc. Auto trans, tan interior.

These fastbacks are not worth the trouble because their hatch angles are way too steep. You'd have to build a complete boat tail anyway.

+1 to the Saturn suggestion. The S-series, ION, L Series and VUE can be driven without any of the body panels. On the S-series, even the roof can be unbolted - it is not a structural piece. On the 1st gen wagons it's plastic also, along with the rear hatch.
