I do have an XFi cam, so more torque down low. 1300 would probably not work well at all in a non-XFi Metro. I've been making a point while driving around of upshifting at ridiculously low (for a 50hp 3-cyl) RPMs, like 1400-1500.

I can "accelerate" (got an egg timer?) on level ground from 1000 RPM without lugging - even in the upper gears - but as I said it's neither fast nor smooth.
