The transmission in the Electro-Metro is actually not the original, but rather a second one that I picked up at a salvage yard.
One reason why I got a good deal on the car originally was that it couldn't shift - the clutch plate was all messed up.
I also found out later that there was a bad bearing as well. Unfortunately, I had already modified the transmission before I found that out.
That means that I have a spare transmission with a bad bearing that is really only useful for spare parts.
I'll take a look at it and see if maybe providing Darin with parts is actually the highest and best use for the thing anyways.

I took the black sheet metal end cap off my original transmission.
Are either of these 5th gear? If so, is it the one I am pointing at, or is it the other one hidden under that slidery-thing?

They both constitute 5th gear.

And put the gears for 2nd in the care package too (he probably needs both 5th gears and 2nd gears) Darin might have to put a hump on his 5th cover somehow, no biggie compared to getting the gears modded though. Might as well send the cover too

That's it - the 5th gear pair.
The slidery thing is what's attached to the shift lever. If I'm not mistaken, the sprocket underneath it also contains the synchro that actually engages the pair of gears (otherwise, its hub just freewheels when another gear, or neutral, is selected).
I'm not sure if the 2nd gear pair is on the shaft via splines, or if they ARE connected to the shaft. I've never been inside a transaxle myself.

Probably a dumb question, but you do have an XFI cam, right?

I do have an XFi cam, so more torque down low. 1300 would probably not work well at all in a non-XFi Metro. I've been making a point while driving around of upshifting at ridiculously low (for a 50hp 3-cyl) RPMs, like 1400-1500.
I can "accelerate" (got an egg timer?) on level ground from 1000 RPM without lugging - even in the upper gears - but as I said it's neither fast nor smooth.

I've been talking to Ben - I think he wants to keep his spare transmission for other projects.
Anyone got an extra one they're willing to part out to me?
I have my original 6k miles transmission I could sacrifice to the cause, but I was keeping it just in case. Maybe I'll start looking for another one.

hmm, maybe upgrade forkenswift a bit so it doesn't need a transmission? Maybe there is simpler transmission for the forkenswift (two speeds via reversing motor? series switchable parallel motors?)
