However, I have murdered many a battery in my day, and I like to see the "charging light", so I am happy with the setup.

Here is what the solar panel looks like on my dash :



I did it because I already had the solar panel lying around. I can't say how much it helps. My theory is that it is insurance to keep the battery healthy.
