i say... it cant hurt. if you know how to take your bumper apart it should be easy. i agree with the clear duct tape suggestion or maybe the black duct tape.
at least if you go that route its reversible if you dont like the results. if it were i though, i would probably throw some fiberglass resin or bondo on it, sand smooth(to original contour), primer and paint flat black to maintain the clean stock look(no tape)
