Yeah - the top is manual. So were the early Miatas (and other small convertibles, probably).

I drove a 1st gen Miata, and one cool thing about it was you could raise/lower the top from the driver's seat. Unfortunately, it's not possible to raise the Metro top while sitting in the car. And I think it's only possible (or "easy") to lower it from inside if you aren't using the hard plastic covers that hide the top when it's down.
