Even bigger news: today I liberated the efficiency holy grail of suzukiclone transmissions from the junkyard! '93 swift transmission, 3.52 FD ratio, 74 teeth on crown wheel.
WOO! I am. Mind me asking what they charged for that?

(I still haven't made the trek to the local wrecking yards to see what they have... I saw a Swift of the right vintage in someone's driveway a few weeks back, but don't know what tranny it had in it. And haven't seen it since, besides.)
