Don't let the auto tranny deter you - you can always do a manual swap.

As for 80 mpg, the answer is... (drumroll please) ... "it depends"! (TM)

Depends on what type of driving you're going to be doing with it, in what kind of environment.

You could get a stock HF over 80mpg with low-med speed pulse & glide - but your avg speed would be in the neighbourhood of 25-30 mph.

Getting 80 mpg @ a constant 60 mph (warm weather, level road) is also possible if you aeromod it to the extent basjoos did with the Aerocivic.
