I have 5W30 in my 98 Civic right now. I'll go over to 0W30 in a few thousand more miles. I am in Southern Cali and I don't need to worry about winters of any significance. This car may never see a snowflake again. In general, I would agree with cleanspeed1: go with the official recommendations. I would only say that you might not go with official recommendations when you know with certainty due to reliable testing by others that something you want to change will be effective and safe.
