I like the look of those early Saabs too. Here's one for you Sven7:

It recently set a record at 145+mph with a 1 liter motor.

Back on topic, a local high school has built a car that reminds me some of your project:

It's built for the Shell Eco-Marathon, but they were taking it to Bonneville as well (no idea what speed yet).

It's got a rear engine. (210cc diesel)
