Side view:

Roof angle at rear quite steep.

Rear quartering:

Mounting glass flush with bodywork would be beneficial to Cd.

Front view:

No side view mirrors.
Enclosing the front wheels results in frontal area increase.

I thought the roof looked steep too but just looked up a tuft test and it looks copacetic!

I like the 92's the best because they have nice grille and small rear window. Much more beautiful than the wraparound on later 96's. Then again the square headlight versions were pretty good looking IMO.

Don't worry. Reading my posts, you'll learn your SAAB history sooner or later

Going to look at that minddrive a little later.

The really silly thing is that I think of an original SAAB being anything pre the GM era, and of course the Type-4s aka the 9000.

Plus of course the legendary Erik Carlsson (Carlsson på take).

^^ To me Saab was dead from 1992-2010.

Okay I derped big time and first did a 1/10th scale blueprint which is practically useless since I'm making a 1/3 scale model. Had to totally redo the thing so here's the 1/6th scale. The model will be twice as big.

The ruler is 700mm/24" long. Matchbox Goddess in there for scale. Yellow is the Aygo for the engine/rad package and pink is the Bb.

It's pretty big. The model will thankfully not be too wide for the door. Lengthwise, though, it's a bit tighter. This is going to be larger than my 1/4 clay model that I posted awhile back*. Yikes.

After reading the Model T streamliner thread I think I'm going to skin the model just like an airplane with "longerons" and some sort of thin skin over that. Maybe large plastic bags that the school store gives you when you buy a giant sketch pad.

*The car was loosely based on the Saab 96 and 99 Combi. It's too bad I didn't know of the aero template back then because it would have been really neat to do a tuft test on the clay model. Live and learn.

Also, also. Check out this version I had for about 15 minutes before my professor poo-poo'd it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/sven_designs/4369089861/ Too bad the model never came close to the template.

I think this needs a better name than "streamliner project". Maybe Linner Strømlinet Vogn? Linnerstromlinienwagen?

To me they still are. And according to their creditors they may still be.

Looking good. The DS is a nice touch.

There's a lot of very minor things that could easily be done today on the basic Saab design to make it even better streamlined.

But it simply ain't happening on today's production lines.

Enclosing the front wheels results in frontal area increase.
That could also be done a lot tighter today, if need be with actively controlled skirts.
The potential aero-improvements are huge.

Double the average speed of the NEDC to a more realistic 65kph / 40mph, and the 1930s aero solutions will pop up again.

I like the look of those early Saabs too. Here's one for you Sven7:

It recently set a record at 145+mph with a 1 liter motor.

Back on topic, a local high school has built a car that reminds me some of your project:

It's built for the Shell Eco-Marathon, but they were taking it to Bonneville as well (no idea what speed yet).

It's got a rear engine. (210cc diesel)
