The 97 was for the California emissions version. I have been trying unsuccessfully to find out what if anything that would have meant for FE. BTW, your 96 DX was rated slightly better for MPG than my 98 DX (still is under the new rules too). Mine was 32/37 and yours had been 33/38. You see this slight FE drop across the Civics 1996-1998. Not sure if its EPA or Honda tuning the ECU or something. Yours still came with 13" wheels, but I am willing to gamble that maybe the changed ECU tuning a little for more power?
