I've never had or used A/C in any of my cars (the Insight is the first that has it.) It's no problem without it if you are a healthy person in southern Canada (maybe 3-4 weeks a summer when it is truly warm/humid). It's nice - it's a luxury for sure, but it's not a necessity.
IMO, something useless that eat your fuel for no reason as to be removed, that was the case of the A/C, we were not using it.
