Power density is a very silly thing to compare. It really only matters when comparing engines of very similar displacement, the same engine cycle, and whether or not it is naturally aspirated. It greatly favors small displacement, high revving engines.

I can go buy a production car this afternoon that gets 400+ hp/L. It's absurdly low-tech and I don't want to commute in it though.
