Congrats on the swap!
I seem to remember reading about cylinder deactivation and the consensus was that it wouldn't do much unless you could close the valves too - you still have the pumping losses of 4 cylinders even if two aren't firing. Very interesting solution to the O2 sensor/ECU problem though.
