Congrats on the swap!

I seem to remember reading about cylinder deactivation and the consensus was that it wouldn't do much unless you could close the valves too - you still have the pumping losses of 4 cylinders even if two aren't firing. Very interesting solution to the O2 sensor/ECU problem though.

I look forward to seeing your further modifications and results.

If your cooling fan is running all the time then it is killing your mpg. I learned that lesson putting a 160degree thermostat in the trans am. Mileage dropped by almost 30%.

Wire the fan back in factory and put in a toggle switch that'll send power to the fans if it ever gets to running hot. The hf and vx's have an oil cooler/warmer on the back of the block at the oil filter to regulate engine temps. Ran one on my last d16a6 dpfi DX crx and it works very well. I change my oil when it turns from golden brown. After that swap I went from 3500-4500mi to around 7000mi per change. Not to mention it was an automatic car with oversize tires and I could stoll manage 40mpg hwy with regular driving and speeds.

Youre doing work though. Keep it up for sure!

A few post back I adressed the fan problem, and it made a huge diffrence. The fan is now on an electronic switch that turns it on and off at 185.

Thanks for the feed back, im hoping to see my first 50 mpg tank soon!

Cool

Just made it home! New record tank for the civic! which is not surprising considering all the effort I put into the swap. but, it was the second best tank I've ever had! What's even more surprising is that I drove 70 plus almost the whole way! Lol.

On 5.7 gal.

Then on top of that I just found out that I forgot to connect my pcv valve... woops. The next tank might break 45

Exclamation Long awaited update

Hey guys, I'm back from the dead... and time to bring my car back as well! I don't have a lot to say, just a lot of pictures and updates on the car.

First off I will "show" how I made my new Kevlar Kamaback

Also, sorry the car is filthy... bondo and primer dust from a mold I made.

My first one was way to steep of a drop off and caused for turbulent flow.. so not any more!!!

first,spray foam

next we shape the foam

fill remaning holes with tape...

then we, Fiberglass resin and smooth out imperfections
(sorry I forgot a few pics here...) wax, wax, and wax, then lay a mold

now, we the remove mold

Next, lay Kevlar after more wax is applied

then trim and fit!!! TADAAA

Close up of the Kevlar after drying

The entire thing cost about $85 to make and weighs about 2 1/2 lbs.
I also swapped in a JDM D15b vtec with my crx HF trans and chipped the ecu to mach, next comes fine tuning the ecu for more mpg, and a full belly pan.

ehhh... wiring...

my junk yard crx HF trans

We also ported and polished the d15b vtec head while we had it apart.

Thumbs up New record tank!!

Sorry this thread has been one of the slowest on the bored, but I have some new pictures and results!!!

on my trip to the GF's family for thanksgiving i decided to test the milage of my car (as all ecomodders do) and BOOM!!!!! 265.2 miles on 5.192 galons of gas. 51.08 MPG!!!!

I know it is not amazing according to ecomodder standards...however, I averaged 70mph and had a 8-12 mph head wind. (NWS readings and from my own anemometer) the temp was 40-55f.

I am happy with the results.

I also installed a partial grill block, air dam, vacuum gauge and painted my kammback.

here is the hot air box. it is made of cardboard, coated in Kevlar and resin on one side and spray flex seal on the other.

here is a side view of the kammback

the motor, a jdm d15b vtec

And the vacuum gauge

I would like to add, that this vtec is not the vtec-e, nor is it lean burn.
Infact the chip it is running on is the stock bacemap for the d16z6. it runs a little rich right now (enough to smell it in the car when stoped) , so once i can burn a new chip I expect a major improvement on milage

Hope y'all like the update
