All a pattern gives you is protection IF you go to market with a product. It helps you sue anyone that rips you off. But it is a fight in court if someone else does almost the same thing..and funny many can also get a pattern if there is enough different. Often as little as 10% change can earn a new pattern.

Sorry... a what? What is a "pattern"? You mean like the thing you use to make a dress? A sewing pattern?
Why not go with something that you can earn a living with that isn't so much trouble? You already know you can't fool the OBDII ECMs since they have so many controls. And you already know you can't sell something "honestly" that will screw up the emissions. And you know that if you sell something that has the potential for screwing up the emissions, you'll have to "prove" that it doesn't. And THEN, after all that time and money spent, you're going to have to restrict the profit. Sounds like a heck of a lot of work for a "mere" $100k profit a year. You could resell tchotchkes from China for significantly less effort and make significantly more profit without having to look over your shoulder (or out your window) to see if the suppressors are after you. And selling the tchotchkes is something you can start doing ... heck, tomorrow... not years and years down the road (and $1000's and $1000's down the drain).
Seems like there are much easier ways to "making a good living" than fighting a system that (as you've well described) is rigged to ensure your failure.
