It was the right way to do it when I was aiming for complex curves. With the simple curves I ended up with (see up the thread for the great stuff foam problems), plastic or plexi would have worked. But I'd already started.

It'll be easily removable. I did however drill the hatch to attach mounting brackets last night, so those holes would need to be covered if I ever removed it. I was loath to drill. But... it's in an area that isn't rust prone (the vertical metal above the rear glass), which was my main concern.

Yes, the car is a bit of a time capsule with ridiculously low mileage. But it is just a car, and I'm not planning to sell it, or put it in car shows. So I got over it, plugged in the drill, and pulled the trigger.
