I know the fun of taking an inefficient vehicle, and making it fuel efficient, so that journey is always a blast! The only reason I even say otherwise, is that very rarely do my modifications pay for themselves. You said 140 miles per day, I inferred 5 days a week. I can send you the Excel sheet, but just a quick write up on my phone.

*Note the Insight calculations are for 50 MPG, not the easily attainable 60-70, or modified 70+. But I'd rather see you mod the truck!
Your calcs are based on 20mpg for the Sonoma. OP indicated he currently averages 28mpg w/o hypermiling (and no mods? That's not clear to me).

At 28mpg, his 2-year fuel cost is only $8400 based on your assumptions.

At his 40mpg goal, his 2-year fuel cost is only $5880 based on your assumptions.

The auto doesn't help, but I'd like to see how he does with the truck. I was fond of my old '98 S10 (2.2L/5-spd); they are good little trucks.

aerosonoma, do you have pics of your aerocap?
