I can strongly recommend a plug-type heater.
Most cars accept a heater in a frost plug fitting. Most Hondas instead, accept a heater in the block coolant drain plug threads. Substitutes for the plug. Civics and Accords have it on back side of engine, just to the right of the oil filter.
I had one installed by a shop and I'm pleased.
