The OEM gauge allows for pretty huge swings in temperature before it registers. However, I expect that unless you live in a very hot climate (which you don't), you will have no problems.

Might I recommend a cheap eBay bluetooth OBD II reader? You can pair it with an android app such as Torque to get readings on all sorts of interesting data.
