Price is absolutely a problem.

Chevy Sonic (gas): MSRP $15,145
Chevy Bolt (aka Sonic EV): MSRP $37,500

Nissan Versa Note (gas): MSRP $14,230
Nissan Leaf (aka Versa EV): MSRP $29,010

Even with the huge gov't rebates, comparing similar cars you get a giant markup for the EV.
