Yes, the toothed side is now riding on the tensioners, but that was the only way I could do it. It does make an odd whirring/resonant noise now. Only one of the "tensioners" actually tensions, and that would be the left one. If I skipped the other one, it would not be able to tension the belt.
This is what the tensioner arm looks like. It goes to the right (clockwise) to tension.
