Well, sorry to say it, but I've officially given up on trying to get a halfway decent finish from a spray can.
Coat #3 looks like crud - combination of operator error, deficient materials, and black that shows everything, making it too hard to get uniform results over a large area.
Time to abandon aesthetics and move on to other projects!
Maybe I'll reconsider a proper re-spray next year after I see how the structure stands up to the winter.
The good news is the air doesn't really care about the paint job.
