I am in a Facebook group for Babylon 5, where fans of Babylon 5 can discuss whatever they want, which is 90% politics, and 10% complaining about political posts.

It is bizarre, though, you can say almost anything and people will revile, insult, and curse at you. "No, I was agreeing with you!"

Posts have 100 - 200 responses, mostly people abusing each other.

What is the point?

Rational discussion rarely changes people's mind. Insults never do, but you showed them!

There was a post on a sister site that said the way to win an argument was to find common ground, agree with them where you can, and then point out the parts where they are absolutely, totally, and unequivocally wrong.

That probably requires skill, or at least practice.
