The Turnip administration wants to auction off 4,200 acres of the Petrified Forest
for oil exploration. They have already done this in two states and have been sued because they are required to survey the land for prospective environmental damage first: https://cronkitenews.azpbs.org/2018/...l-exploration/

I appreciate you, too.
Our discussions (especially in this thread) are always intellectually stimulating.
Those idiots are on social media, too. Can't move one degree of separation left or right without stepping on one.

I am in a Facebook group for Babylon 5, where fans of Babylon 5 can discuss whatever they want, which is 90% politics, and 10% complaining about political posts.
It is bizarre, though, you can say almost anything and people will revile, insult, and curse at you. "No, I was agreeing with you!"
Posts have 100 - 200 responses, mostly people abusing each other.
What is the point?
Rational discussion rarely changes people's mind. Insults never do, but you showed them!
There was a post on a sister site that said the way to win an argument was to find common ground, agree with them where you can, and then point out the parts where they are absolutely, totally, and unequivocally wrong.
That probably requires skill, or at least practice.

NuScale SMR
.
NuScale Power - SMR Nuclear Technology
.
Factory construction is key to making Nuclear cost competitive. Small sizes are usually much more costly but the cost over runs and graft involved in companies getting filthey rich from halfway building a new PWR make a sealed, factory delivered option very attractive. But only if it is truly walk away passively safe. Indefinitely. including the cooling pools. This is where molten fuel reactors have a big advantage. And also in their 700C operating temp which enables molten salt energy storage so that they can vary their electrical output from 0 to 200% every day to balance large uptake of solar PV.
.
Thorcon also has a good vision if they can really make it happen by building in ship yards which are already adept at making big things.

Between a bunch of useless trees or oil.
I would rather have the oil.

Ah-h-h-h, but trees create O2 which we need to breathe, while oil creates CO2 which we can't breathe.

I thought it was a petrified Forrest?
I don't consider normal trees useless, even if they are just dead wood, even then they remain useful as fertilizer or firewood.
Petrified tress are just rocks, that used to be trees.

Wouldn't know, the closest I get to social media is Youtube. I wasn't talking about idiots though, but autists.
sendler — Throttleable, walk-away nuclear would be acceptable.

Molten fuel nuclear is not really throttleable but the 700C thermal temp works perfectly with the well established and ubiquitous combined cycle steam turbines and also can be buffered effectively with available molten salt thermal storage systems to allow load following with a high percentage of intermittent renewable generation.
