Below: the latest attempt is hatchbackectomy and Kammback graft. Result: 71 mpg US, at the same ambient temperature, with a 3 mph higher average speed. I'd call that progress.
The biggest downside: the plume of dust that came in the back of the car when I hit a short section of gravel road. The air currents in the car varied wildly depending the side window levels.
This kayak transporting business will be easier when the MPGiata is back on the road, later this summer...
(I would have mounted it upside down, though. The kayak, I mean.)
