Little boy, fat man, fukushima, I can see why the Japanese don't like nuclear reactors.
Germany has a really good safety record.

There was a plan for recycling the waste then in 2004 I believe it was the program was defunded, then quitely restarted and has been back at work since 2016.
With no plan nuclear waste just piles up in temporary storage which is unbelievably dangerous.
Recycling the waste removes the 5 to 15% of waste isotopes that make the fuel unuseabe for commercial power generation and reuses the rest as nuclear fuel.
Some of these waste isotopes, maybe around 0.1% are very valuable to science and medicine.
