Variable spark plug gap! (TM)

I've never seen this before! The car started running like poop last week, so I checked the usual suspects and found one plug with a loose electrode.


Check the gap....


Right side up (how I hold it when gapping it):




Upside down (how it sits inside the engine):






No wonder I was struggling for 70 MPG on the last couple of trips.
