People aren't meant to have children in their 30s and 40s, or live to be 80. There are costs associated with socially manipulating different reproductive behavior than what nature had intended, such as fewer births, and more genetic related problems. Medicine has allowed us to live long enough to inevitably encounter problems associated with aging.

In my estimation, medical costs will continue to rise as a percent of GDP until genetic engineering is employed.
