Like the pappy in the book, mine was a farmer. He was good at working with his hands, resourceful DIY repairs (lots of machines to keep running), and didn't abide wastefulness.
But his treat to himself after a lifetime of carefully & successfully building up the farm was a big fancy car. Ironically, that V8 Cadillac was the first car I ever drove that had a digital MPG gauge.
