I think so. Lots of unsprung weight, relatively delicate in a spot subject to brutal impacts all the time, speed limiting... they just don't last. Look up the Orbis Wheel threads on this site and you will see a cool effort at a solution to some of this, but Orbis was purchased by someone just as it went to market and then it disappeared. Poof!
