There's a story behind those wheels:


Both the 5-speed Fit and the 5-speed (non-hybrid) Civic of that era got those wheels and a couple of other ecomods as a result of a federal fuel-efficient vehicle rebate program that was put in place at the time.


Initially, both the Fit & Civic just missed the threshold (based on combined fuel economy rating) to qualify for the rebate, so Honda Canada made a number of small changes that boosted MPG enough to get the cash.



The automatic Fit & Civic were too far from the threshold, so they didn't bother doing the mods to those cars.
