Agreed. It's risk analysis. Cycling through high calorie food to keep it fresh would more likely subtract good years from my overall lifespan, in exchange for providing a potentially better outcome in the case of a rare event.

Speaking of cycling - I look at it a bit like bicycling, where more collective lifespan is lost from inactivity than accidents, on average.

Not that I won't wear a helmet, or having some emergency rations.
