Although it's Middle Earth, it definitely feels more like Edge of Earth.
The weather is virtually always pleasant, if a touch humid, and there are no dangerous animals or biting insects (except for sandflies on the south island's west coast). The cost of living is actually lower now than in much of the US, too.
Weta is a short walk from where I live.
