Oh man. And on my old commute, which was only about 6 miles, the lights are synchronized. And I'd catch up to some dude in his hopped-up Chevelle, he'd tear off in a cloud of pre-smog exhaust, only to have me sidle up next to him at the next light...then off he'd go again. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Sometimes it was a Camaro. Your mileage may vary. I did notice though, even then in the 90s when gas was still relatively cheap, that the smaller and "weaker" cars would hypermile and time the lights like I did - I had the impression they weren't doing it for fuel economy though, but just because it's easier, once you get those little sewing machines rolling, to never have to do it again.
