gods of hypermiling were smiling
We've all had those incidents---people that tailgate and won't pass, catching a leadfoot at the next light etc. Today was stellar.....
In my 13 mile commute there are 17 traffic lights, not sycronized. I do it at the sme time every day and am familiar with many vehicles that make a similar commute. As soon as I turned on to the main road to begin my commute, I noticed the red firebird stopped at the light ahead. I coasted, the light changed, the f-bird flew off the line, and I proceeded. THIS HAPPENED 15 MORE TIMES!
I drove 13 miles through, through 17 traffic signals without ever stopping! The firebird was just ahead of me when she turned off. What a great way to start the day.

I had the EXACT same experience on my commute home two weeks ago. Except the offending vehicle was a PRIUS. The driver was an older fellow with a long goat-t along with his over made up wife. I was blown away by the fact that I'm hypremiling my TRUCK and he's blowing from light to light in a hybrid. Funny and sad at the same time. This happened through 7 lights btw. lol I never had to completely stop for any of them either. He was there waiting for me at each one.

Ha Ha, I've had that happen too- and it went on for miles and miles!
LOL- finally the guy started getting pi$$ed by my breezing past him at EVERY fresh green light and he started REALLY flooring it! Geez, after about 15 miles of that nonsense his flooring it finally "paid off" when he squeaked through a yellow that I stopped for.
And I see the Prius "thing" all the time- where they drive like complete idiots. Way to put ALL the responsibility for good fe on the car! Well, I guess the good thing about it is, most of them were probably doing the same thing in Suburbans, Expeditions, and Durangos not too long ago so they are at least doing less damage.

Yeah, it seems like every Prius I see is going 10 or more MPH over the speed limit.

Ignorance is bliss, fellas.
This happens to me every time I make the trip to visit my father up north. Soon, I'll be moving up there, and it's alot more city driving than down here, so I'll see it even more. Thankfully, most of the places I'd drive up there, they're all single lanes to the red light, which means that everyone behind me gets to slow down and not have to stop as well.

Oh man. And on my old commute, which was only about 6 miles, the lights are synchronized. And I'd catch up to some dude in his hopped-up Chevelle, he'd tear off in a cloud of pre-smog exhaust, only to have me sidle up next to him at the next light...then off he'd go again. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Sometimes it was a Camaro. Your mileage may vary. I did notice though, even then in the 90s when gas was still relatively cheap, that the smaller and "weaker" cars would hypermile and time the lights like I did - I had the impression they weren't doing it for fuel economy though, but just because it's easier, once you get those little sewing machines rolling, to never have to do it again.

lol the sewing machine line is definately true for my little truck. It's an overweight and underpowered little 4 cylinder, and it's much easier to keep it rolling than to get it rolling. Just another added benefit of hypermiling.
