Well, with my '03 5 speed, my best tank was 46.23, and we (me and the wife since we carpool) normally average around 40. My personal goal is consistant 50+ tanks. I know its quite achievable, but its gonna take some good mods plus serious driving style. Unfortunately, my wife isn't as into hypermiling as I am, so that hurts the tanks. So, I've been focusing on mods that will help with more normal driving and P&G.

Well as the second member I guess I will follow suit. My 04 Vibe is Automatic, so I am already starting behind the eight ball, but as for now it is averaging mid 40's to the tank and my long term goal is 60mpg, 50 is just around the corner for me. I want to be able to maintain speed limits and still do 50+ mpg. Many sleepless nights ahead of me.

So far my best tank is 41 mpg but i must admit, it's not easy, i keep looking for tricks, like at the moment i try to find the best acceleration methods with this automatic Vibe, i just stopped accelerating very very lightly in orther to leave the gas pedal as soon as possible and glide and also to operate the engine in its most efficient band possible but i don't realy know precisely what is the load and throttle opening i should use (for the moment i use around 65% load and 2200 rpm) but it make sense to me that gas engines have a kind of sweet spot where it takes the least amount of fuel per HP and this can be used for better mpg but not if braking is coming up right after. It's kind of difficult in my case cause my wife is not hypermilling, i very seldom burn a full tank of gas alone but when i did the 41mpg i was alone on this tank.
Anyway my hypermilling is a great amelioration over my pre-hypermilling days and that's great.

Oof. You guys are getting over 40 with automatics? Good job! I'm still trying to learn how to drive this thing. It's so different than the '88 Accord I had.

God I hate ethanol !!!! My stations recently starting using it. I now have E freakin 10 in my tank and as you can see from my logs my Vibe has plateaued @ 44 mpg. I am so pissed, I was well on my way to breaking 50. Well, time to continue the mods ...

Well I figured I would post here as a start to a controversial A-B-A Test for Acetone. As you guys can see by my fuel log, my car has hit a wall, 44mpg is sorta where it is thx in part to ethanol. Now those last three tanks also contained 1oz of Acetone. So, since I have nothing but time I thought I would run the next three tanks w/o Acetone and see what happens then return to using it for the last three and continuing tankfuls. I'm hoping 9 tanks should provide enough information to prove or disprove its benefits ...

Thanks for posting the pictures, trik. So that's what a gutted interior looks like! How many pounds have you removed? Have you noted how much effect it's had?
I'm also interested in your acetone experiment. I'm waiting until I get a SG before I try too many different things. For myself, I'd like to quantify things semi-scientifically...

From what I've seen, E10 only hurts my mileage by about 2 mpg. I'll take that hit (not that I have a real choice) for a cleaner burning fuel and one that can be grown domestically. IMO, with cellulotic ethanol production being ramped up, ethanol isn't something to scoff at.

Well I know I'm going to get criticized for the method of my testing but I figure 9 tanks, which is over 3500 miles plus an established baseline of 3 months using Acetone, plus very consistent usage and you can't get much better than this;

So here is the A part of my ABA testing;
A1 = 44.4 / B1 = 44.80 / A1 = 39.85
A2 = 44.7 / B2 = 38.73 / A2 = 45.32
A3 = 44.6 / B3 = 44.78 /

Oh and BTW, gutting the interior saved me over 300lbs, those seats are heavy ... and it lifted the ass end of my car about an 1-1/2, so now I need to find a good lowering kit ... My fuel log gives the best description of mpg increase ...

Well as expected, the ECU learns and the mpg's are a droppin .. let's see what the third tank without Acetone delivers ... Hopefully good or bad this should shed some better light on the potential of this additive and in such small quantities.
