I've gone on some pretty gnarly logging roads in the Prius, but it requires a ton of steering and slow movement. The Pacifica probably has better ground clearance with the trade off of being larger and more difficult to maneuver. I'm sure it can cycle climate too, just like a Prius (there is a 25 mile range plug in version of the Pacifica).

The funny thing about the Pacifica Hybrid is it uses the same gas engine as the non-hybrid, which is rated only 28 mpg highway! If you can live with the smaller RAV4, that might make more sense in this case--although otherwise, I would lean toward a minivan for the extra room inside too.
ETA: The Pacifica also starts at $12,000 more than the RAV4....

The Pacifica plug-in qualifies for the full $7,500 federal tax credit, I believe.

Be sure to do your research on the Pacifica before buying. There seem to be a lot of complaints about reliability, which stands in contrast to Toyota's typical higher reliability.

Typically I spend between 1-3 years on a model specific forum before I purchase a vehicle. I've not been on a Pacifica forum because I don't have any plans to buy one.

Yeah, I feel like Toyota has their hybrid A game going vs. the competition. You guys have been familiar with the RAV4 Hybrid longer than I.... have any reliability problems with the 2016-2018 bubbled up?

My friend just told me he's looking for 3rd row seating since he's having a 3rd kid. I just mentioned the Mitsu, but I too don't like the brand as a whole due to reliability issues.
His other requirement might be AWD since he lives on a steep road that got a lot of snow this year (Eugene).
He's looking at a Yukon, but I'm sure there's other better options out there. I mentioned Pacifica and he said the FWD might be a problem. Then I mentioned Kia Telluride, Highlander hybrid, Subaru Ascent, and Honda Pilot.
