6 speed manual tranny for 5th/6th Honda Civic's

I saw this auction for a Japanese 6 speed Civic transmission; it says it will fit in any 5th gen Civic and early 6th gen Civics.

Does anyone know what this tranny is? an extra gear would be nice.

That looks really sketch, he writes it fits a Honda Civic but doesn't mention any Toyota in the description, but it's a 4A-GE transmission aka C160. Identical gear ratios to the 2ZZ Corolla XRS or Matrix XRS. For reference, with 205/50/r15 tires you would be at about 2800rpm at 55mph in 6th gear. It's kinda high, but you do have very nice sporty close ratios.

If it's really a C160, it's probably worth more like 2000 dollars if it's in acceptable shape.

It shifts via cables, so it's newer then 2000 or it might not be from a civic, whatever it's from has the engine on the passenger side of the vehicle, like the Fit, CR-Z and a few other honda's do, the Civic has the engine on the drivers side of the transmission.

The last generation of the Levin Corolla was '95-2000 and could have a 6-sod behind a 20v 4A-GE. I would guess this is what the tranny is from.

This tranny will absolutely not work with a 5th or 6th gen Civic.

It should fit perfectly in a Toyota Corolla.

Not a non-A engine Toyota. Different adapter plate I believe, but the guts are the same as the C60.

That's out of a black top corola it'll fit that or a mr2. Close sporty ratios. Wish I would have seen that when I still had the mr2.

I have thought of a K20 (RSX, 7th and 8th civic engine) trans but the engines are oriented the opposite way so it wouldnt work out. Also the ratios are fairly short, not sure if TSX 6th would come out any taller than CX/VX 5th.

I had this transmission in my 1986 mr2. Took a little modification to make it work in the mid engine setup, but worth it. Like it alot. It is a little different than the C60 and is intended for the A block (aka 4AGE).

It IS an A engine. The Blacktop 20 valve is part of the A block series. I had this trans mated with a stock MR2 engine and the 99 blocktop 20 valve 4age. Both worked flawlessly. It is also a drop in swap for a corrola.
