I don't know how difficult this would be, but the newer Chevy V8s have cylinder deactivation, so swapping would be a big and easy gain.

Since it has 2 banks of cylinders you could also try ghetto DIY cylinder deactivation if you're brave and diligent by shutting off injectors and spoofing sensors.

Well thanks everyone for your feedback.

I'm not really in a hurry, have more vehicless than I should anyways... So I'll keep looking into this Eco-Corvette idea and let you guys know what comes out of it.

But the fact that nobody else in here is doing it is almost motivation enough...

It was more of a side point, not entirely relevant to the original post, but I'd wager a Vette that's short shifted and otherwise kept at the bare minimum RPM will deliver fairly decent economy. With such a large engine, and with engine losses going up exponentially with RPM, I'd wager it's the primary low hanging fruit, with more to gain than aero, weight or RR.

Found info from few years back on a 40mpg C5 corvette.
