Probably buy the V nose, because you're going to be building either way, and it's got more volume.

New is, as you said, faster. You'll also have a better shell, factory-made doors, etc, and you'll still have your utility trailer.

Ditto on the tear drop trailer.

In 2015 the prevailing wisdom was the slope shouldn't exceed 22 1/2 degrees.

I'm not to concerned with economy on this build, the Jeep sucks gas anyway, I've been averaging under 12 mpg but it would be bad to drop that as low as 8 or something. While I could see making a 300 mile highway trip and then going slowly 20 miles off into the boonies on dirt roads, most trips would be 30-60 miles of highway and then slow up into the mountains. Those mountain roads would be 30 mph tops, maybe lots of 3 mph.

Now a teardrop highway camper would be the bomb behind the TDI Touareg as it already gets about 30 mpg on the highway. Then I could do long trips to the coast and down to the redwoods with it. Or maybe the Grand Canyon.

I may have to do both!

Another advantage of the v nose is that extra 2' may make the 10' kayaks just fit inside stacked but I'd have to measure closely.

To/two/too conflation isn't that uncommon.

Maybe something like this instead of slide outs.
