CBR250R with +1 in the front, -2 in the back is the way to go right now for a cross country capable hypermiler. They are on sale everywhere for $3400 to make room for the upcoming CBR300R.

I went to the Honda dealer (A big fancy almost everything in stock dealer) and they didn't have any. Is that price for showroom only or until the warehouse runs out? I will just call and see and hang up when they ask for all my info lol.

Officially the CBR250R is $4,200 minus $500 off right now. Anyone should be able to order a 2013 for this price anywhere. Dealers who still have them in stock have additional hidden incentives which allow a $3,400 price. If there were any 2012's left, they were selling for $2,800. But those are probably all gone now. A couple years ago when the CBR250R first came out, Honda Canada was blowing out the left over new gen CBR125R's for $2,200. Including the gorgeous grey/ orange.

AHH *grabs heart* YOURE KILLIN ME!!! haha.

You guys have inspired an idea in my head... A CBR125 on the freeway at 65 would probably be maxxed out near wide open throttle where a 250 would still have some room. +1 -2 gearing would probably (or lets pretend) go 65 in a similar manner as the 125. I want to say that would close the gap between the two a fair amount.

Another thing about Fuelly users, is that some users don't give a crap about saving gas from their numbers (Or they are addicted to the twisties which I understand) but why they record their fuel is beyond me. So that makes Fuelly not seem as valid.

I wish there was a member status on fuelly that states "Serious Hypermiler" etc. I noticed people who write notes tend to have the highest MPG though so thats what I try to go off of.

I'm with sendler on this one. The 250 is the way to go. The 125 is wheezy, anemic and dangerously slow. Fun on 30-40 mph side roads but definitely not highways. The two people I know with CBR125s were done with them in less than a year and couldn't get rid of them because nobody wanted them. I've seen them sitting on my local Craigslist for $1300-1500 for months at a time. I'd rather have a Grom because they at least have character.

With a gearing change the 250 will at least equal the 125 in economy without being dangerous.

I don't know about elsewhere but a used CBR 125 engine here in France would be around 300€ for a carb version (that is less carb or exhaust).
Then you need to have it sent.

Much cheaper to have sprockets made ...

Alright 250 it is. But If I ever move out of CA to rural USA or Hawaii, you bet your seat cowl I'll be on a 125!

The 125 needs some help, I wonder if has been De-tuned or a restricted carb throat etc
When i was a kid , had a Honda xr75 that did 50mph if I was tucked in ,clocked with a car on pavement.

My life time average with the CBR250R over 19,000 miles of highway commuting is over 90 mpgUS. The top speed with longer 15/36 gearing is up to 96 mph. Top speed of a CBR125R is about 75 mph. Besides the fact that you live in the US so getting a 125 registered is very involved. The 250 you can buy right now with 0 down financing at 3.99%.
