Wise one plans route so that there are no stop signs on route, good for hypermiling

Sadly not always possible.

I try to follow rules by my best ability and skill as rules are what others except everyone to follow, then even if I make mistake and don't spot someone, there is more safety marginal as that is why rules primarily are made, to add more marginal of error and also to lower consequences of errors.

I don't like all rules, some rules I think are not good at all in what they try to do, but I still mostly follow them. Rules about lights are some that I tend to bend a bit, I like to see in dark and rules are made more for heavy traffic areas in mind. Roads I use seem to have more wildlife than cars at times I drive, so not much of issue for anyone.

A couple of friends of mine have been rolling through a stop sign in the middle of nowhere where I used to live for years, and I just started to adopt the practice. One night at 2am I thoroughly scanned for cars and rolled through at about 15mph. I pulled into my driveway and started walking into the house when an officer stopped by and issued a $250 ticket.

I obey all traffic control devices now. The only time I will run a red is when my motorcycle has failed to trigger a light and I have waited twice as long as it normally takes to get a green.

Just keep in mind the difference between illegal and unlawful.

Unlawful is against the law.
Illegal is a sick bird.

So... one of them is when you break the law yourself, and the other when you direct someone who works for you to break the law?

I believe it is joke of age old, Ill e gal, Ill girl, Ill bird, makes me smile everytime however

But I'm not american, so there are fair bit of limits what I know about culture etc.

If I do something that is not legal, like using main beam at empty road with bad streetlamps and I'm fined from that it is ok, I have to accept fine and live with that if I choose to bend the rules.

I keep also sunvisor down at night as those annoying streetlamps are like thousands of low hanging suns, who knows maybe even that is illegal

I guess he saw you though, that sucks.

I do my best to check the intersection thoroughly before deliberately not stopping, good practice in any case, as no one needs a collision. So far so good, as all it takes is one ticket to negate all your previous transgressions.

Don't bend ANY rules at bar closing time; the shadows are thick with pigs looking for ANY excuse (One license plate bulb dim? Didn't signal? That all it takes) to pull any and everything over in the hopes of issuing a whiskey ticket. The revenue can't be beat so that is what they live for. BTW I've never had an alcohol related violation, thank god.
