Dwarf cars: how good is the fuel economy?

This Ernie guy seems like a mad craft genius. The dwarf cars in the video are gorgeous and street legal (!?). I wonder... how well do any of you think that dwarf Merc does on fuel given small frontal area and its probably inefficient engine?

Quote:
CLASSIC cars have been reenvisioned as miniature versions and collected in a ‘dwarf car’ museum. Ernie Adams, of Maricopa, Arizona, has been creating his incredible scaled-down replicas of full-size cars since 1965, starting with his version of a 1928 Chevy two-door sedan. The original car, known as ‘Grandpa Dwarf’, was made out of nine old refrigerators and is still running today. Since then, Ernie, now in his late-70s, has made hundreds of 11/16th scale dwarf cars, from racers to cruisers – all fully drivable and road-legal. One of the gems of his collection is his take on the 1949 Mercury two-door coupe, which he built entirely from scratch using flat sheet metal.

I will rebuild Black and Green over decades as parts die, until it becomes a different car of roughly the same shape and color. My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.

What leads you into assuming their engines are inneficient? On a sidenote, such small car could be a nice testbed for some motorcycle engines.

In another video he says it gets 31mpg. It has a complete Toyota drivetrain with a 1500cc engine.

He’s definitely a talented man.

We need to keep in mind that he likely isn't driving as efficiently as we do and these drivetrains aren't the most fuel efficient to begin with.
On a side note:
Is my car a dwarf-car?

Considering it's not some random stationary engine meant only to be cheap and dumbproof, with a precarious power-to-weight ratio and other features which are not great from an efficiency standpoint, that 'Yota engine is not so bad at all.

Dwarfs are wasted on cross country, they are natural born sprinters.

So in other words, it isn't so much the size, as how you use it?
